If you’re in your 20’s, you probably feel busier and more stressed than you did in the decade prior. While you’re working your way up and hustling to make your mark in your chosen profession, how do you make time for anything other than work and sleep?! Well, how you take care of your body in your 20’s can have a great effect on how you age.
At FREEDOM Naturals, we believe if you form a few healthy habits early, you’ll be on a path to a longer, healthier life. First, we’ll speak to a topic we know a thing or two about after 25 years in the industry, and that’s your skin. Establishing a good skincare routine in your 20’s is especially important! You can stave off wrinkles, adult acne and dark spots just by taking practical care of your skin. What does that entail? It starts with making sure you clean, moisturize and protect every single day, particularly with natural, botanical-based products that heal, not harm (read: no harsh chemicals!), your skin.
Beyond your skincare routine, there are a few other healthy habits we encourage you to start in your 20’s.
Learn to Cook
When you get home from a long day of work, it’s easy to turn to takeout for dinner. Getting food to-go not only costs you more in the long run, but can cause weight gain from the higher caloric intake. Not to mention, most restaurants serve food super high in sodium, which does no favors for your skin. Nowadays, there are cookbooks designed specifically for young adults with quick and easy recipes that use include fewer ingredients and require shorter preparation time, making it doable for your busy life.
Your busy life can make it difficult to find the time and energy to squeeze in a workout. Luckily, there are other ways you can implement activity into your daily life. Doing so will make your mind, body, and soul happier. Try taking the stairs in your apartment or office building. Try doing some desk yoga a few days a week, which also helps relieve stress. Watch this YouTube video on the fitness trend! Form a walking group at the office and take a quick stroll around the block at lunch. And on that note, take a walk to pick up your lunch and enjoy the fresh air. Whenever you can get your body moving, take advantage. It all adds up and can make a big difference in the long run!
Cut the Binge Drinking
It’s the weekend and you’ve probably got plans to let loose! Who can blame you? Young adults typically consume a significant number of extra calories on the weekend. It’s easy for a few drinks to distract you from your health goals and lead you to a greasy pizza late at night. Even worse, a slight hangover in the morning could make you skip your workout. (And can we just say that dehydration also negatively affects the look and feel of your skin?!) No need to cut all the fun, but consider your weekend choices. Enjoy those cocktails, but perhaps one less, and you’ll reap the benefits.
Catch Some Z’s
Sleep is such a crucial part of your overall health. Getting at least seven to eight hours of sleep will significantly improve your mood, energy and eating habits. Try going to bed at the same time each day, avoid stimulants such as caffeine or other sleep disruptors before bed, make your sleep space comfy, and exercise regularly to ensure restful nights.
In life, and especially in your 20’s, it’s all about balance! Your mind, body and soul will thank you just by making a few habits part of your daily routine. What habits have you made a priority in your healthy, happy life?
